Horsham District Community Transport

Horsham District Community Transport (HDCT) was set up on 18th April 2013 to meet the requirements of those that are in need of accessible transport because of age, sickness or disability or poverty or lack of availability of adequate and safe public transport.   West Sussex County Council (WSCC) and Horsham District Council (HDC) recognised the need for accessible transport in Horsham District and gave their support to the charity.

Residents of Horsham and the surrounding area, who are in need of community transport can register with HDCT and use the Dial-a-Ride service to get to an appointment, visit a friend or relative, attend a club or perhaps go shopping.  All our minibuses have tail lifts and are adapted for wheelchair users.  If you find it difficult to get on or off the minibus the driver will be pleased to let you use the tail lift.

Another service we offer is the hiring of a minibus with or without a driver for private parties.  If anyone is organising a trip we can provide transport at a very reasonable rate.  We also organise afternoon trips to the Worthing beach, garden centres, afternoon teas at various locations and even pub lunches.

Carl is now always here in time for morning tea break which gives him the time to settle down and spend some time with other customers before sessions start. Carl is much calmer on arrival now that he does not have to transfer in and out of cars that are totally unsuitable for his needs, and his mother gets her correct amount of respite time and can make necessary trips out of the home without worrying that Carl will be brought home early. Both Pat and Bill seem to really care about Carl and are always talking to him, not over him or about him and they have both reported that Carl is always happy on the bus , smiling and giving lots of eye contact and they feel that they are beginning to understand his communication and that he is communicating with them on some level.”
